FUENGIROLA is located in the middle of Marbella and Malaga, about 15 minutes’ drive from Malaga airport on the West. It is nearby to Benalmadena and Torremolinos, towns along the coastal highway, Costa del Sol. This town is right at the scenic Sierra de Mijas foothills with the best microclimate in Costa and the Spanish mainland.

Tourism Domination

The ever-growing demands of tourism have brought drastic changes to this town in terms of its property structure and development. However, its sandy and beautiful beaches have been very well maintained to the tourists’ delight. Its 8 km of enticing beaches make this town Europe and Spain’s favorite holiday resort.

There are cafes, restaurants and bars lined along the town’s renovated promenade close to its windy beaches of clean sand, with plenty of water sports such as sailing, fishing, pedalos, windsurfing, and diving expeditions.

Although Fuengirola may be a small town, it is quite close to other towns which allow a visitor more than one sight for a holiday.

Local Highlights

Quality golf courses are abundant here in a 30 km radius for the avid golfer. The huge Aquapark at the outskirts of town will cool you during the hot summer, although it is limited to certain months of the year, namely from April to September. The local zoo is just 10 minutes away from the town center which underwent a complete refurbishment in 2001.

There are many short day trips around this region, such as the Arabic castle of Sohail at the seafront, the Roman Baths near the train station, the town’s bullring, and the harbor.

The picturesque Mijas village will give a spectacular view of the town and region via a walk. This ancient village is located near the Sierra de Mijas hills.

Gastronomy

There is such a wide selection of foods here in Fuengierola that one is spoiled for choice; from fast western foods like Burger King, to the local cuisine (Tapas Bars), and even Asian fare. One will not be disappointed with the cuisine here.

Nearer the sea front is an area where the food selection is as varied as is the price. This place is called the Fish Alley by the locals.
